Three teams have claimed their share for the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball regular-season title, as Drake, Evansville, Illinois State finished the conference race with 13-5 records.
Illinois State (23-6, 13-5 MVC), by virtue of its 3-1 record among the tied teams, earns the top seed in the State Farm MVC Women’s Basketball Tournament for the third time in school history (1987-88, 1988-89).
Evansville (19-10, 13-5 MVC) earns the tournament’s No. 2 seed, having split four contests with Illinois State and Drake, while the Bulldogs (20-9, 13-5 MVC) are the third seed with a 1-3 mark among the three tied teams.
Creighton (19-10, 12-6 MVC) is the tournament’s fourth seed and will meet the tournament’s fifth-seeded Missouri State Lady Bears (11-18, 9-9 MVC).
Indiana State (14-14, 8-10) earned the sixth seed via tiebreaker over UNI (12-17, 8-10 MVC). The Sycamores and Panthers split regular season meetings, each winning at home, with the Sycamores claiming the spot through the league’s tiebreaking point system (for further clarification on the point system, check the MVC website).
Bradley (12-17, 6-12 MVC) is the eight seed , Southern Illinois (9-19, 5-13) the ninth and Wichita State (9-21, 3-15) the 10th seed.
Seeding for the State Farm MVC Women’s Basketball Tournament came down to the conference season’s final hours as there were 32 seeding scenarios possible entering the final day.
